project overview

Low Tide Brewing is a staple of the Charleston community and arguably Johns Island’s favorite local brewery. This project involved the total revamp of Low Tide’s then-dated website. The bulk of the design work came primarily from web & graphic design, UI/UX, and building the internal site framework.

requirements

  • Update the overall layout, expandability, and functionality of the previously dated, hard-coded html site.
  • Give more purpose to a site that previously had very little to offer patrons. No useful info = No website visitors
  • Spearhead the Low Tide brand and remain / expound on previously established brand standards.
  • Hand over a site platform that has e-commerce & shipping, custom calendar functions for food trucks & events, a live feed for whats on tap, news article posting, and much more.
  • Create a steady source of online revenue for the brewery by introducing ecommerce to sell merch.
  • Site must be easy to make updates to calendar, beer lists, and other variable information.

solutions

Wordpress was chosen as the primary CMS for the project due to its expandability, security, and search engine friendliness. All of the shopping on the site is performed under Woocommerce, and the site itself is a fully customized template.

Maintaining a live list of on-tap beers as well as a constantly changing food truck schedule was a growing burden for Low Tide. As their business expanded so did their need to simplify the process. This was achieved by a custom-post structure for food trucks that ties directly into a calendar function. Integrating the Untapped plugin the Low Tide proved for a simple, yet elegant solution. Now more of the day can be spent focusing on beer and less time fielding phone calls!
